On December 3, Key Club members arrived at the Village gym donned in Christmas apparel. With just half an hour to prepare for the many little feet that were soon be darting across the floor, volunteers quickly went to work, attempting to transform the gym into a Christmas party wonderland.
Over one hundred balloons were blown up and turned into a giant balloon caterpillar. A huge hit was the cookie decorating. The kids loved piling heaping amounts of sugary neon frosting, sprinkles, and Christmas themed candy corn. This was a great time for both volunteers and kids, and very appreciated by parents.
“The kids had a great time, and [we] decided that we should do this again,” said Laura Flores in an interview. Flores said that the best part of the party was “when they wrapped people in toilet paper, and it was everywhere!”
Just a few of the activities available were blindfolded candy challenge, pin the nose on santa, Christmas wheel of fortune, card games, running around on the playground and bead designs. A special thanks to all the volunteers involved in making this event a great time for the kids. An estimated $500 was raised from the event for the Boys and Girls Home of NC to help purchase Christmas gifts for the children who live there.
