One last season

by Jordyn Stanley, staff writer

Senior Madison Long was the only senior on the varsity softball team. She has played for Village, both varsity and junior varsity, since the sixth grade. Long has been looking forward to the experience of “senior night” since she earned a spot on the team seven years ago. She also played a big role in the team being in two conference championships and a member of the 2015 2A State Runner-Up team.

“I put Madison in many different positions and she never complained. If she got hurt she didn’t want to come out of the game. She was the same type of player I was in baseball; I did everything right handed but bat. She will defiantly be missed and I wish her the best of luck at UNC Pembroke and beyond,” Coach Mike Sublett said.

Long has been coached by Mike Sublett all of these years and is sad to say goodbye to her coach and teammates. She believes that without her friends on the team the experience of her season wouldn’t have been the same.

“My team never fails at making me laugh and picking me up when I’m down, and I am sad that I won’t be playing with them next year. Sublett is the best coach and I wouldn’t trade him for the world, I want to thank my team for all the love and support they give me,” Long Said.

Senior night for long was fun but emotional her mother and father stood on the field on front of her team and the opposing team as she listened to the letter Coach Sublett wrote. She also received flowers and gifts from her friend and teammates.

Long is a leader on and off the field but never fails to make practice and games a fun, memorable time. Between her and Aubrey Griffin there is never a “dull moment” one of her teammates stated.

“Madison is so sweet and one of my best friends and she always makes me laugh. Her and Aubrey are the funniest duo you will ever meet. She is always so happy and smiling I love her to death and I’m sad to see her leave,” Jordyn Stanly said.

After being at Village Christian Academy for 13 years, Long will say her last goodbye to being a student and athlete for the VCA Lady Knights, the softball team wishes Madison the best of luck and love.
